TransIP is a Dutch provider of domain names, web hosting and VPS servers, all managed from one account in its control panel. Since October 2025, accounts without two-factor authentication (2FA) get an emailed code at sign-in. Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app and that email step no longer applies (TransIP). TransIP's help doesn't make 2FA mandatory for any product.

The authenticator app is the one 2FA method TransIP documents. Its English help also mentions a text-message code you can ask for at sign-in as a fallback (TransIP). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the TransIP steps come from TransIP's own knowledge base, in English (transip.eu) and Dutch (transip.nl), including its screenshots. We read the articles, linked below, on October 20, 2026. We haven't tested them on a TransIP account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

No backup codes

None of TransIP's 2FA articles mention backup or recovery codes. If you lose the app, you're left with a text message to your account's phone number or a support request with ID. So check that number first: select your username in the top right corner of the control panel, then My account, and look under Account details (TransIP).

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

Dutch labels are in brackets (TransIP, TransIP):

  1. Sign in to the control panel. Select your username in the top right corner, then My account (Mijn Account).
  2. Open the Security tab (Beveiliging).
  3. Under Two-factor authentication, set the Status switch to On (Aan). A QR code appears, with the key below it as Shared secret (Sleutel (Shared Secret)).
  4. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the code. If the control panel is open on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  5. Or tap +, then Enter key manually, put TransIP under Service and the shared secret under Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  6. Type the code from Novaz into Verification code (Verificatiecode) and select Save (Opslaan).

Typing the key should work: the keys in TransIP's screenshots are 16 characters, codes change every 30 seconds, and the sign-in screen's example code has six digits (TransIP, TransIP). If the codes don't match, remove the entry and scan the QR code instead. From then on, the control panel asks for a code from the app after your username and password. TransIP doesn't say whether it can remember a browser.

TransIP's tips note that you could hand the shared secret to other people on your account, then warn that this undermines 2FA (TransIP). If you share it, treat it like a password.

If TransIP rejects your code

TransIP's first suspect is the phone's clock: a minute off is enough to break codes, and it suggests comparing with time.is (TransIP). On iPhone, go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off.

The English article then points to Send free SMS on the code screen, which texts a code to the phone number in your account details. The Dutch version of that article doesn't describe this step, so don't rely on it (TransIP).

Once you're in, TransIP suggests a fresh key: on the Security tab, select Regenerate (Opnieuw genereren), scan the new QR code, and check the new entry works before deleting the old one. In Novaz, open the old entry and tap Remove account. More causes in Authenticator code not working?

Moving to a new iPhone

TransIP has no article on switching phones, but Regenerate makes a new key whenever you're signed in (TransIP). While the old phone still works, sign in on a computer, select Regenerate, scan the new QR code with Novaz on the new iPhone, and enter a code from the new phone if asked. Test it, then remove TransIP from the old phone. With a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can skip the new key and restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

Try Send free SMS first, if it's offered, then set the app up again with Regenerate.

Otherwise, email support@transip.eu (or support@transip.nl) with your account name and a request to switch off 2FA for now. Support must confirm you own the account (TransIP):

  • Account in a person's name: a copy of a passport, ID card or driver's license (you may cover the photo, document number and social security number), plus a screenshot of the bank statement showing your latest payment to TransIP, with account number, amount and description readable.
  • Account in a company's name: a Chamber of Commerce (KvK) extract less than three months old, ID for an authorized signatory, and the same bank statement screenshot.

TransIP gives no time frame. If you've also lost your sign-in details or the account's email address, TransIP adds a phone call, made one month after it gets the bank statement (TransIP, TransIP). More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

Turning 2FA off

TransIP's help doesn't cover this, though its screenshot shows a Status switch. Accounts without 2FA get the emailed sign-in code instead (TransIP).
