Your Trimble ID is the single sign-in for every Trimble application (Trimble), SketchUp included (SketchUp). It already has a basic second step: Trimble emails a one-time code to your primary address when you sign in from a new or unrecognized device, and it set March 31, 2026 as the date that check becomes required across its applications (Trimble).

You can replace the email code with a stronger multifactor authentication (MFA) method: a passkey, an authenticator app (any app that makes one-time codes), or a code sent to a secondary email (Trimble). This guide sets up the authenticator app with Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Trimble steps come from Trimble's own help pages, linked below, which we read on October 20, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Trimble account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

If your company signs you in to Trimble through its own identity provider (a federated account), you can't change MFA yourself. Ask your administrator (Trimble).

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

From Trimble's setup page (Trimble):

  1. Go to myprofile.trimble.com and sign in with your Trimble ID.
  2. On your profile page, select Set up next to the authenticator app option.
  3. Trimble shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  4. If you can't scan it, select Can't scan it and copy the code shown. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, fill in Service and, if you like, Account, and enter the code as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  5. Type the 6-digit code from Novaz in the Verification Code field and select Submit.

Your profile then shows an Enabled toggle for the method. With more than one method, pick the one Trimble asks for at sign-in: select the More icon next to it, then Make Default.

Scan the QR code if you can. Trimble says its code "changes every 30-60 seconds" (Trimble). A QR code tells Novaz the right interval; a typed key always gets 30 seconds.

Some Trimble pages call this profile area Sign-in and security rather than Multifactor Authentication.

Recovery codes

When you add your first strong method, such as a passkey or an authenticator app, Trimble creates 10 single-use recovery codes of 8 digits each (Trimble). Trimble's authenticator steps don't mention them, and no page says how to see them later, so save them as soon as they appear.

Save them even if you back up Novaz, for when the phone is gone and there's no iCloud backup or backup file, or it's out of date. Keep them somewhere you can reach without that phone. Trimble also suggests adding a secondary email as a second method (Trimble). More in 2FA backup codes.

When Trimble asks for a code

Trimble asks for your default method at each sign-in. On a personal device, Remember this device skips the second step for 30 days; don't use it on a shared computer. You can review trusted devices at myprofile.trimble.com (Trimble).

If Trimble rejects your code

Trimble's help doesn't cover rejected codes. Check your iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. If you typed the key, tap Remove account in Novaz and scan the QR code instead. More in Authenticator code not working?

If you lose your authenticator

Trimble's recovery page offers these routes (Trimble):

  • Primary email: at the code prompt, select More options, then Send a code to your primary email.
  • Secondary email: if you added one, pick it instead. One page calls the link Need help? Try another way (Trimble).
  • Recovery code: select Use a recovery code, enter one, and select Verify.

Because your primary email can stand in for the authenticator, give that mailbox its own 2FA.

If you can't reach any of your email addresses, use the Contact Support button on Trimble's help pages (Trimble) to start a manual identity check. Trimble doesn't say what proof it needs or how long it takes. If Support turns MFA off, every method except passkeys is erased (Trimble), so add Novaz again afterwards. See Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

Changing phones

Trimble says you can move MFA to a new device from your profile, without listing the buttons (Trimble). Do it while the old phone still works. With a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead; otherwise you'll scan a new QR code. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

Turning 2FA off

At myprofile.trimble.com, switch off the toggle in the multifactor section, confirm, enter your password, select Submit, and pass the second-factor check. You need one working method to do it. An application that requires MFA will send you back to turn it on again (Trimble).
