Vivaldi 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app for your Vivaldi account
By the Novaz team · Updated October 29, 2026
Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
Your Vivaldi account is the single login behind Vivaldi.net: the Vivaldi Forum, Vivaldi Social, the blogs, Vivaldi Themes, Vivaldi Webmail and the browser's Sync (Vivaldi). Two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional. You can use an authenticator app, security keys, or both, plus a set of recovery codes (Vivaldi).
Know this before you start: if you turn on 2FA and later can't use any of your methods, Vivaldi says the account is lost for good. Treat the backup step as part of the setup. The steps use Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Vivaldi steps come from Vivaldi's own help pages and blog, linked below, which we read on October 20, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Vivaldi account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
Vivaldi's help page, last updated in January 2026, gives these steps (Vivaldi):
- Go to vivaldi.net and log in to your Vivaldi account.
- Open Account. A March 2026 page puts it in the menu under your username or avatar, top right (Vivaldi); the older 2FA page says quick links near your profile image. Or go straight to login.vivaldi.net/profile/me (Vivaldi).
- On your profile, click Enable Two-Factor Authentication and enter your login password.
- On the management page, select Authenticator app.
- In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the QR code. If it's on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Can't scan it? Click enter this setup key in the text above the QR code to see the key. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, fill in Service and, if you like, Account, and type the key as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Type the 6-digit code from Novaz on the setup page and click Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
Vivaldi doesn't say how often its codes change, so scanning the QR code is the safer choice: it carries the code settings to the app. Its 2023 announcement adds that only one authenticator app can be linked at a time (Vivaldi).
Add a backup right away
Vivaldi doesn't hand you recovery codes during setup; you generate them afterwards (Vivaldi):
- Back on the 2FA management page, under Add another method, click Recovery Codes.
- Click Generate.
- Save the three codes somewhere safe, away from your phone.
Each code works once, so after using one, review your methods and generate fresh codes.
Vivaldi strongly encourages at least two methods. Security keys are the other option, and you can add as many as you like (Vivaldi). Novaz's keys exist only on your iPhone unless you've turned on iCloud backup or exported a backup file, so these methods are what save you if the phone goes without one. See 2FA backup codes.
Where Vivaldi asks for a code
Vivaldi asks for the code after your password on every login to its services except Sync, which the January 2026 help page says will follow (Vivaldi). The May 2026 Sync page still describes signing in with only your username and password (Vivaldi). Vivaldi's pages don't mention an option to remember a device.
If you've also added a security key, Vivaldi tries the key first. Cancel that prompt to get the choice of an app code or a recovery code.
Mail and calendar apps
To add Vivaldi Webmail or your calendar to another app once 2FA is on, sign in through OAuth (password plus second factor, repeated now and then) or create an app password: on the management page, click App passwords, then Generate a new password, choose mail, calendar or both, and name the app. Vivaldi shows each app password only once and wants a separate one for every app (Vivaldi). App passwords exist only while 2FA is on (Vivaldi).
If Vivaldi rejects your code
Vivaldi's help pages don't cover rejected authenticator codes. Check the iPhone's clock first: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
Vivaldi doesn't describe a phone move, so do it while the old phone still works. On your profile, click Manage in the Two-Factor Authentication section and enter your password (Vivaldi). Disable the authenticator app, then select Authenticator app again and scan the new QR code with the new phone. Vivaldi switches 2FA off once no method is left, so if the app is your only one, finish the new setup straight away.
If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore it on the new iPhone instead and keep the same codes. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
Log in with a recovery code or a security key, then replace the lost app from Manage. Without either, there's no recovery route: Vivaldi says its team can't help you regain access, and the account is permanently lost (Vivaldi, Vivaldi). More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Turning 2FA off
Open your profile, click Manage Two-Factor Authentication, and enter your password. Then disable the authenticator app and delete all security keys. 2FA is off once no method remains (Vivaldi).
