weclapp is cloud business software (ERP, CRM, invoicing, warehouse) that teams sign in to in the browser. It has offered two-factor authentication (2FA) since 2019, and in January 2025 it announced that 2FA would become mandatory: the switch was planned for March 15, 2025, after which you can't sign in to weclapp without it (weclapp).

weclapp calls an authenticator app a "soft token". The other options are a hardware security key over USB (U2F) and, in its newest help, a passkey (weclapp, weclapp). This guide covers the authenticator app, using Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the weclapp details come from weclapp's own support portal and blog, linked below. Both sites turned away our automated reader, so on October 21, 2026 we read them as archived copies on web.archive.org. The step-by-step article is in German. Its newest saved copy is from October 2024 and the article itself was last updated in October 2023. weclapp has since rewritten its 2FA help into new chapters that we couldn't read, so expect some labels to differ. We haven't tested the steps on a weclapp account. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

The labels below are the German ones from weclapp's help, which shows the German interface (weclapp).

  1. Open Meine Einstellungen (My Settings).
  2. Go to the Zwei-Faktor-Authentisierung section. weclapp asks you to authenticate again before it shows what's in it.
  3. Click Neuen Softtoken generieren (generate a new soft token).
  4. weclapp shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap + and use Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  5. If you can't scan it, use the text of the soft token, shown to the right of the QR code in four groups of four characters. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, add a name under Service and type the key as the Setup key, without the hyphens. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  6. Type the current code from Novaz into the Generierter Code field.
  7. Save the whole settings page. weclapp's help stresses this step: if you don't save the page, the soft token isn't stored.

Your settings then show the soft token as active.

If your company has a weclapp administrator, they can also create the soft token for you from your user's detail page under Mein weclapp > Benutzer (Users), according to the same article.

When weclapp asks for a code

Once the soft token is active, weclapp asks for it after your normal sign-in, every time: you enter your username and password, then the code from your app to finish signing in (weclapp). The help doesn't describe a way to trust a device and skip the code.

If weclapp rejects your code

weclapp's help doesn't cover rejected codes. The most common cause is the iPhone's clock: open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. If the code fails right after setup, check that you saved the settings page in step 7. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Have a second factor ready

weclapp's help doesn't mention backup codes, and unless you back up Novaz with iCloud backup or a backup file, its keys exist only on your iPhone, so a second factor is your best protection against a lost phone. weclapp lets you register as many hardware security keys as you like (weclapp), and its current help also lists passkeys. We couldn't read whether weclapp lets you keep a soft token and one of these on the same account at once.

Changing phones

weclapp's help doesn't describe moving a soft token. Before you give up the old phone, sign in and generate a new soft token in Meine Einstellungen with the new phone, then save. The help doesn't say what happens to the old token. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore it on the new iPhone instead; without one, a new iPhone means setting weclapp up again. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

  • Ask your weclapp administrator. weclapp's help says an administrator can generate a soft token from your user's page, as above. It doesn't say whether that's meant for a locked-out user, but it's worth asking.
  • Contact weclapp support. For a lost or broken hardware key, weclapp's help says to email support@weclapp.com. Once support has checked that you're allowed to access the account, it can remove the key so you can sign in without it (weclapp). The help doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long it takes.

weclapp's current help has a chapter called 2FA zurücksetzen (reset 2FA), but no copy of it was available for us to read (weclapp). More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

Since 2FA is mandatory, the help doesn't describe turning it off.
