Your APNIC Login is the single sign-on for MyAPNIC, where APNIC Members manage their IP addresses, AS numbers, Whois records and invoices. It also opens APNIC Academy, DASH, ReX and conference registration (APNIC). Multifactor authentication (MFA) isn't optional here: APNIC requires it for everyone who uses its online services, MyAPNIC included (APNIC). Election voting also starts from a MyAPNIC sign-in with MFA, through the Vote Now link on the dashboard (APNIC Blog).

APNIC offers three ways to get codes: Okta Verify, which can also send push prompts; Google Authenticator; or another authenticator app, such as Microsoft Authenticator, FreeOTP, Authy or Duo Mobile (APNIC). Text-message codes aren't on the list. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the APNIC details come from APNIC's own website and blog, linked below, which we read on October 20, 2026. APNIC's step-by-step MFA guide is in its Help Centre, which only loads in a full web browser, so our automated reader couldn't open it. The setup steps instead come from an archived copy of APNIC's MFA page, saved on web.archive.org on March 22, 2025, before the steps moved to the Help Centre. We haven't tested them on an APNIC account, and labels may have changed since. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Turn on MFA with an authenticator app

These steps follow the archived 2025 page (APNIC, archived):

  1. Sign in to MyAPNIC at my.apnic.net with your APNIC Login.
  2. Open My Profile (the icon at the top right), then Passwords & Security, then Multifactor Authentication.
  3. Choose a method. For Novaz, pick the option for another authenticator app, which APNIC's current page calls "Other Authenticators". Okta Verify is a separate app, and Novaz can't answer push prompts.
  4. APNIC shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  5. If you can't scan it, the 2025 page says you can type in a Secret code instead. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually. Put APNIC as the Service, your APNIC Login email as the Account if you want it, and the secret code as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  6. Type the six-digit code from Novaz into APNIC and confirm it.
  7. Sign out of MyAPNIC. The 2025 page says this completes the setup.

APNIC doesn't say how often its six-digit codes change, so scan the QR code if you can: it passes the exact settings to Novaz, while a typed key always gets 30 seconds.

For the current screens, see APNIC's Help Centre article Manage Multifactor Authentication (MFA) in a normal web browser.

When APNIC asks for a code

With MFA on, signing in takes your password plus the six-digit code from your app, or a push approval if you chose Okta Verify (APNIC). The March 2025 page also offered to remember a device for 30 days. The current page doesn't mention it, so don't count on it.

No backup codes in APNIC's documentation

None of the APNIC pages we could read mention backup or recovery codes. If that phone is gone and you have no Novaz backup (iCloud backup or a backup file), the documented way back in is the APNIC Helpdesk. Keep its contact details (below) somewhere you can reach without signing in.

If APNIC rejects your code

APNIC's current pages don't cover rejected codes. The usual cause is the iPhone's clock: open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones

Switch while you can still sign in with the old phone. The archived page says to remove a method under My Profile > Passwords & Security > Multifactor Authentication by selecting it and clicking Remove (APNIC, archived). Remove the old method and set up the new phone in the same visit: MFA is mandatory, and APNIC doesn't say what happens if you sign out with no method.

If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead, and the codes keep working. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

APNIC's MFA page sends any MFA problem to the APNIC Helpdesk (APNIC). The 2025 version named this exact case: you changed your mobile device and can no longer make a code (APNIC, archived). APNIC lists these ways to reach the Helpdesk (APNIC, APNIC):

  • Email: helpdesk@apnic.net
  • Phone: +61 7 3858 3188, 09:00 to 21:00 (UTC+10), Monday to Friday, closed on some public holidays.
  • Live chat, mentioned on the MyAPNIC page.

APNIC doesn't say what proof it asks for before resetting MFA, or how long that takes. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
