Your Allegro account is the one you use to buy and sell on Allegro, the Polish online marketplace. Its two-factor authentication (2FA), dwustopniowe logowanie (two-step sign-in) in Polish, adds a one-time code to your password, sent by text message or made by an app (Allegro). It's optional: the help pages we read don't require it for any account.

Choosing the app doesn't take text messages out of the picture. The app setup ends by asking for a phone number for emergency SMS codes, and Allegro's help mentions no backup codes, so that number is your way back in. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Allegro steps come from Allegro's own help pages, linked below, which we read on October 20, 2026. The English pages are in Allegro's seller help center; the Polish buyer help has the same steps, and the Polish labels in parentheses come from it. We haven't tested them on an Allegro account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Before you start

If you sign in to Allegro with your phone number, turn that off first. Allegro won't turn on 2FA while phone-number sign-in is on (Allegro). The switch is the disable button in the Phone Sign-in section of the Sign-in and Password tab (Allegro).

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

Allegro's help links straight to the tab, in your My Allegro account settings: allegro.pl/moje-allegro/moje-konto/dwustopniowe-logowanie. Then (Allegro, Allegro):

  1. Open the Two-Factor Authentication tab (Dwustopniowe logowanie) and click Let us begin (zaczynamy).
  2. Choose the code-generating app as the way to get codes, and click next (dalej).
  3. Choose the type of device you'll make codes on, and click next. If you're doing this on your phone, Allegro recognizes it and skips this step.
  4. Allegro shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  5. Can't scan it? Click Show code (Pokaż kod) to get the key as text. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, type Allegro as the Service and the key as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key? Then click next.
  6. Type the code from Novaz and click enable (włącz).
  7. Pick a phone number from the list or type a new one for emergency codes, and click send code (wyślij kod). Enter the code from the text message, and you're done.

Allegro's help doesn't say how many digits its codes have or how often they change. Scanning the QR code is the safer choice, because it passes those settings to your app. A key typed by hand always gets 6 digits every 30 seconds.

The SMS number is your backup

Allegro's help doesn't mention backup or recovery codes. The emergency number from step 7 is there so you can get a code by text when you can't reach the app (Allegro). Unless you've made a Novaz backup, Novaz keeps its keys only on your iPhone, so keep that number current:

  • It's a separate number. The one in the Two-Factor Authentication tab can differ from the phone number in your account details, and you edit it on its own (Allegro).
  • To change it: in the tab's Text message section, click change settings, then change phone number. Enter the new number, click send code, type the code that arrives, and click change phone number (Allegro).

SMS is the weaker method, though. See Authenticator app vs SMS codes.

When Allegro asks for a code

Allegro asks at sign-in on any device that isn't trusted (Allegro). To trust a device you use alone, click add to trusted in the tab's Trusted devices section on that device. Or, at sign-in, tick Do not ask for a code on this device (Nie pytaj o kod na tym urządzeniu) before you click confirm code.

Trusted devices are remembered in cookies. Clear them, switch browsers or use a private window, and Allegro asks again. It may also ask on a trusted device if it sees signs of a break-in attempt.

Passkeys are the exception. When you sign in with a passkey, Allegro skips the 2FA step; any other sign-in method still asks (Allegro).

If Allegro rejects your code

Allegro's help doesn't cover rejected app codes. The usual cause is the iPhone's clock: open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when your clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

In the Allegro app, don't keep guessing: it locks after the fifth failed sign-in attempt, and unlocks once you sign in correctly in a web browser (Allegro).

Changing phones

Allegro's help doesn't describe moving the app to a new phone. While the old iPhone still shows codes, turn 2FA off (below) and set it up again on the new phone. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore the account on the new iPhone instead. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

  • Use a text-message code sent to your emergency number. Allegro's help doesn't show where the sign-in screen offers it.
  • Try a trusted device or a passkey, which may get you in without an app code.
  • Once you're in, turn 2FA off and set it up again.
  • No text arriving? Allegro's first suspect is an old number in the Two-Factor Authentication tab. If you can't sign in any other way to fix it, contact Allegro through Contact us on its help pages (Allegro). Allegro's help doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long this takes.
