Bitso is a crypto exchange used mostly in Latin America. Its two-step verification adds a second code after your password, and you can get that code by text message or from a verification app (Bitso). It's optional, but you need it to create an API key (Bitso). Bitso also offers passkeys.

This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way. In Brazil, Bitso stops offering retail services on October 30, 2026, and accounts move to Mercado Bitcoin (Bitso).

How we checked this guide: the Bitso steps come from Bitso's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. The article pages refused automated requests that day and no archived copy was available, so we read the same articles through the help center's public article feed on support.bitso.com. We haven't tested them on a Bitso account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Website or app: which to use

On the website, Bitso shows a QR code you can scan with your iPhone. In the Bitso app, its steps only mention copying a code and pasting it into your authenticator, which also works with Novaz on the same phone.

Bitso's English articles are translations of Spanish originals, so labels depend on your language. In Spanish, I already have the app is Ya tengo la app (Bitso).

Turn on 2FA on the website

These steps come from Bitso's setup article (Bitso):

  1. Sign in on bitso.com and open Profile. In the side menu, choose Security, then Account security.
  2. In the 2FA Token section, click Activate, then Continue on the banner that appears.
  3. Click I already have the app.
  4. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the QR code on your computer screen.
  5. If you'd rather type it, copy the code Bitso shows. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, put "Bitso" in Service and the code in Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  6. Type the 6-digit code from Novaz into Bitso. Once Bitso accepts it, two-step verification is on.

Turn on 2FA in the Bitso app

  1. Open the Bitso app and tap the menu icon (☰) at the top left.
  2. Go to Security, choose 2FA Authentication and tap Continue.
  3. Tap I already have the app, then copy the code on the screen.
  4. Open Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually. Type "Bitso" as the Service and paste the code into Setup key.
  5. Copy the 6-digit code Novaz now shows, go back to the Bitso app, paste it, and tap Continue.

Bitso doesn't say how long its key is. Novaz needs at least 16 characters when you enter a key by hand. If it won't take the code from the app, set up 2FA on the website instead and scan the QR code.

Recovery code

Bitso's articles refer to a "recovery code" as the way back in if you lose the device with your verification app (Bitso). They don't say when during setup Bitso shows it or how many codes you get. If Bitso gives you one, save it somewhere other than your phone. Without a Novaz backup (iCloud backup or a backup file), its keys exist only on your phone, so that code is your way back. More in 2FA backup codes.

When Bitso asks for a code

  • Signing in. After your password, Bitso asks for a two-step code or your fingerprint, depending on your settings (Bitso).
  • A new phone or computer. You enter the authenticator code, then a 6-character code Bitso emails you to authorize the device. You have 30 minutes from sign-in to finish (Bitso).
  • Money and keys. Bitso mentions codes for approving transactions and for sending a significant amount, and you enter one to create an API key (Bitso, Bitso).

If Bitso rejects your code

Bitso's advice is to check that your verification app's time is synced and to enter the code that's showing now (Bitso). On iPhone, open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off.

If nothing works, Bitso says to open a support request (Bitso). Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones

Bitso doesn't describe moving the authenticator to a new phone. It does document turning two-step verification off on the website with one last code, so while you still have the old iPhone, you can turn it off and set it up again on the new one. With Novaz's iCloud backup or a backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

Use your recovery code if you have it. Without the device and the recovery code, Bitso says to contact its support team, which can turn off two-step verification for you (Bitso). Its articles point to live chat: the chat icon at the bottom right of bitso.com, or a request through the help center (Bitso). Bitso doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long this takes.

If you've added a passkey, Try another way on the sign-in screen switches between the passkey and a code (Bitso). Bitso's passkey pages compare passkeys with text-message codes and don't say clearly whether a passkey can stand in for an authenticator code. See also Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

Turning 2FA off

You can only do it on the website (Bitso):

  1. Sign in at bitso.com/login. If you usually use the app, you may need to approve the sign-in there.
  2. Open your profile, then Security > Account security.
  3. In the two-step verification section, click Deactivate and enter a code from Novaz. It turns off right away.

Then remove Bitso from Novaz: open the account and tap Remove account.
