Changelly is a crypto swap and purchase service. You don't need an account to exchange in its mobile app, but an account keeps your history (Changelly). Changelly PRO, its trading platform, is a different story: it's a separate platform with its own account, even if you register with the same email (Changelly). Each account has its own two-factor authentication (2FA), so if you use both, you set it up twice.

On both, 2FA is optional and works with a code-generating app. Changelly PRO also accepts a YubiKey. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Changelly steps come from the FAQ pages on changelly.com, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. Changelly's help desk at support.changelly.com asked for a sign-in when we tried to open its articles, so we didn't use it. We haven't tested the steps on a Changelly account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Your Changelly account

Changelly's FAQ is short on detail for the main account. It says you turn 2FA on in your profile settings (Changelly), or your account settings (Changelly), but it doesn't list the screens or buttons. Elsewhere, the same FAQ reaches your settings by selecting the Account button on the right side of the main page, then Settings, so that's the place to look (Changelly).

When Changelly shows you a QR code:

  1. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  2. Type the code Novaz shows into the field Changelly gives you.

Changelly's FAQ describes authenticator codes as 6 to 8 digits that change every 30 seconds (Changelly). It doesn't say which length Changelly uses, so scan the QR code rather than typing a key: the QR code tells Novaz the right settings, while a key typed by hand always gives 6-digit codes. The FAQ doesn't mention a text key or backup codes for this account.

Once it's on, Changelly asks for a code each time you sign in, and when you withdraw from Changelly Earn (Changelly). You can turn 2FA off whenever you like, the FAQ says, but it doesn't say where (Changelly).

Your Changelly PRO account

Changelly PRO's FAQ, last updated in May 2023, gives proper steps (Changelly):

  1. Sign in to Changelly PRO, open the Settings page and go to the Security tab.
  2. Select Add 2FA app.
  3. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and scan the code on the page. Changelly PRO also lets you enter the key from the Security page by hand: in Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, and type it as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  4. Write down or print the backup code Changelly PRO shows you.
  5. Type the code from Novaz and select Confirm.
  6. Open the confirmation email Changelly PRO sends you and follow the link. It expires after 10 minutes.

After that, Changelly PRO asks for a code every time you sign in (Changelly) and when you withdraw funds, where an email confirmation follows the code (Changelly).

Keep the backup code safe

Changelly PRO calls the backup code the only way back into your account without its team's help if your phone is lost or broken (Changelly). Novaz keys stay on your iPhone unless you turn on iCloud backup or export a backup file, so keep that code too: it gets you in if the phone is gone and you have no up-to-date Novaz backup. Keep it away from your phone, on paper or in a password manager. More in 2FA backup codes.

If Changelly rejects your code

The main Changelly FAQ has no advice on this. Changelly PRO's troubleshooting page suggests three checks (Changelly):

  • Your phone and computer should show the same, correct time and time zone. Also check the time zone on your Changelly PRO Settings page.
  • Use the same app you set 2FA up with.
  • If codes still fail, sign in with your backup code, then turn 2FA off and set it up again.

The clock check makes sense for either account. On iPhone, the fix is Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

If you lose your authenticator

Changelly account: the only documented route is the support team, at support@changelly.com, which can turn 2FA off for you (Changelly). The FAQ doesn't say what proof support asks for or how long it takes.

Changelly PRO: type your backup code in the 2FA code field when you sign in. Once you're in, you can turn 2FA off and set it up again on another device (Changelly).

Without a backup code, Changelly PRO can turn 2FA off temporarily, but only after identity verification (KYC). You start that by writing to its compliance team at compliance@pro.changelly.com. Changelly warns this takes a while, since it has to confirm you own the account, and gives no time frame (Changelly). See also Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

Changing phones

Changelly doesn't describe a phone change for either account. For Changelly PRO, follow its advice for broken codes: sign in, turn 2FA off, and set it up again on the new phone. If you use Novaz's iCloud backup or a backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead, and the codes keep working. Without one, do this before you wipe the old phone.
