ClearScore 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5

Your ClearScore account is where you check your credit score and credit report, so it holds financial data worth protecting. Two-factor authentication (2FA) isn't compulsory, but ClearScore strongly recommends it (ClearScore). You can choose a text message code or an authenticator app, and the one thing to know up front is that you can only have one of them on at a time (ClearScore). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the ClearScore steps come from ClearScore's own help center pages, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a ClearScore account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
The steps below are from ClearScore's UK help center. South Africa's path is further down.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
ClearScore's help article, last updated in August 2026, gives these steps (ClearScore):
- Have Novaz ready on your iPhone, as ClearScore suggests.
- In ClearScore, go to My Account, then Settings, then Privacy & Security.
- Open Two-factor authentication.
- Select Enable.
- When ClearScore asks which method you want, choose Authenticator app (TOTP) rather than SMS codes, and follow the prompts on screen.
ClearScore's help doesn't say whether those prompts show a QR code, a text key or both. Either works with Novaz:
- QR code: in Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If you're using the ClearScore app on the same iPhone, take a screenshot of the code, then tap + and Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Text key: tap +, then Enter key manually. Type ClearScore as the Service, your email address as the Account if you like, and the key as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
Then type the code Novaz shows into ClearScore to finish. ClearScore says its authenticator codes change every 30 seconds, which matches what Novaz uses for a typed key (ClearScore).
Already using text codes?
You can't add the authenticator app next to SMS. To switch, ClearScore says to disable your current method first, then enable 2FA again and pick the other one (ClearScore). Do both steps in one sitting, so the account isn't left without a second step. For the trade-offs between the two, see Authenticator app vs SMS.
In South Africa
South Africa's help center puts the setting under My Account, then Account & Security, then Two-factor authentication (2FA) (ClearScore South Africa). The Australian help center only describes codes sent by text and doesn't mention authenticator apps.
When ClearScore asks for a code
After you sign in with your email and password, ClearScore asks for the code from your app. It does this when you sign in on a new or different device. On a device you already use, it usually won't ask every time, unless you sign out, clear the app's data, or ClearScore wants to check again for security reasons (ClearScore).
If ClearScore rejects your code
ClearScore's own advice for authenticator codes is short: use the code that's showing now, since they change every 30 seconds, and set your phone's date and time to automatic, because a clock that's out of sync makes codes fail (ClearScore). On iPhone that's Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
ClearScore doesn't describe a way to move the authenticator to a new phone. Its help says only that after a phone change you may need to set it up again (ClearScore). The safe order, while you still have the old iPhone, is to sign in, choose Disable under Two-factor authentication, then Enable it again and add ClearScore to Novaz on the new phone. With a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can instead restore your accounts on the new iPhone. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
ClearScore's help pages don't mention backup or recovery codes, so if you have no Novaz backup to restore, the route back in is ClearScore's support team. Its 2FA help points you to the ClearScore Assistant, the chat in the bottom-right corner of the help center (ClearScore). If the Assistant can't sort it out, your question goes to the Customer Support team, who reply by email. You can also write to help@clearscore.com. The team works Monday to Friday and aims to reply within one business day (ClearScore).
ClearScore's pages don't say what proof it asks for before it removes 2FA, or how long that takes. If the phone was stolen, see Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Turning 2FA off
Go back to My Account > Settings > Privacy & Security > Two-factor authentication, select Disable, and follow the prompts (ClearScore). Then, in Novaz, open ClearScore and tap Remove account.
