F2Pool is a cryptocurrency mining pool: your account holds your mining accounts, their hashrate and revenue, and the wallet addresses your payouts go to. Two-factor authentication (2FA) isn't forced on everyone, but you can't add or change a payout address until you have 2FA, a passkey, or (on the website) a phone number set up (F2Pool, F2Pool). The thing to know before you start: F2Pool doesn't hand out backup codes. Its only way back in, short of an identity check by support, is the 16-character key it shows during setup. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the F2Pool steps come from F2Pool's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on an F2Pool account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Turn on 2FA on the website

F2Pool's help describes these steps (F2Pool):

  1. Sign in at f2pool.com, open the account menu in the top-right corner and click Account Settings.
  2. Choose Security on the left. (F2Pool's newer passkey article calls this page Security Settings, so the label may differ.)
  3. Click Setup next to Two-Factor Authentication.
  4. F2Pool shows a QR code and a 16-character key. Write the key down before you go on (see the next section).
  5. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the code. If the page is open on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  6. If you'd rather type it, tap +, then Enter key manually, enter F2Pool as the Service, and paste the key as the Setup key. F2Pool's codes are 6 digits and change every 30 seconds, which is what a typed key gives you (F2Pool). More in What is a 2FA setup key?
  7. Type the current code from Novaz on the F2Pool page to finish.

Turn it on in the F2Pool app

In the F2Pool app, tap Me at the bottom, then the gear icon in the top-right corner. Choose Security Settings, then Two-factor authentication, and add the QR code or key to Novaz as above. To finish, the app asks for a verification code, your login password and a code from Novaz (F2Pool).

Save the 16-character key

Both of F2Pool's setup articles tell you to back up the key, because it's what restores your 2FA later. F2Pool also says to keep it private (F2Pool, F2Pool).

Save it even if you back up Novaz with iCloud backup or Export to file…: the key works in any authenticator app, with or without that backup. Put it in a password manager or on paper, somewhere other than the phone.

When F2Pool asks for a code

With 2FA on, F2Pool asks for a code when you sign in, after your email address and password (F2Pool). You also confirm with 2FA or a passkey when you add or change a payout address. After any address change, F2Pool holds payouts to that mining account for 3 days (F2Pool).

If you also add a passkey, it takes over. A setting called Passkey required for critical actions is on by default, and while it's on, sign-in and wallet changes accept only the passkey. Turn it off in the passkey settings if you want to use your Novaz codes instead (F2Pool).

If F2Pool rejects your code

F2Pool's troubleshooting article lists several causes (F2Pool):

  • Wrong field. When you sign in on the app, the first box wants the emailed verification code, which mixes letters and numbers. The second box wants the 6-digit code from Novaz.
  • Wrong clock. On iPhone, open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. F2Pool suggests turning it off and on again if it's already on. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off.
  • A setup you didn't finish. Each time you click to set up again, F2Pool makes a new QR code and key. Remove the old F2Pool entry from Novaz (open it and tap Remove account), then add the new one.

Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones

F2Pool says its key is meant for reinstalling your authenticator or moving it to a new device (F2Pool). If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, restore it on the new phone and the F2Pool entry comes with it. Otherwise, on the new phone, tap +, then Enter key manually, and type the key you saved. Check that the new phone shows the same code as the old one before you remove F2Pool from the old phone. If you didn't save the key, turn 2FA off while you still have the old phone, then set it up again on the new one. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

If you have a Novaz backup, restore it on the new iPhone. If you saved the key, you can also add it to Novaz on any iPhone and you're back, with no reset needed (F2Pool).

Without the key, email support@f2pool.com from the address on your account, or open a ticket. What F2Pool asks for depends on your balance:

  • Under $100: photos of the front and back of an ID card or driver's license, or your passport's photo page, plus a photo of you holding the ID and a handwritten note.
  • $100 to under $500: the same ID photos, plus a video of you holding the ID while you read the note aloud.
  • $500 or more: the ID materials, plus a video call. Suggest times over the next 1 or 2 business days in your email.

The note has to read "I, [Name], on [Date], apply to remove the 2FA for account [Account]." F2Pool doesn't give a timeframe, only that it handles requests as soon as it can. After a reset, it tells you to set up 2FA or a passkey again right away. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

Turning 2FA off

On the website, go to Account Settings, then Security, click Close next to Two-Factor Authentication and enter a code (F2Pool). In the app, open Security Settings, then Two-factor authentication, and enter a code (F2Pool).
