Nozbe is the task and project app for individuals and small teams that used to be called Nozbe Teams. It took the plain Nozbe name in February 2022, and the older app became Nozbe Classic, which is a separate product with its own accounts (Nozbe, Nozbe). This guide covers the current Nozbe, the one at nozbe.app.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional in Nozbe. You can get the second code from an authenticator app or by text message, but Nozbe's help limits SMS codes to Premium and Business users. It names no plan limit for the authenticator app (Nozbe). The steps below use Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Nozbe steps come from Nozbe's own help center and release notes, linked below, which we read on October 22, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Nozbe account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

What Nozbe's help covers, and what it doesn't

Nozbe documents 2FA in one short section of its Settings help page. It tells you where the setting is and which methods you can pick. It doesn't describe the setup screen, backup codes, recovery, or how to turn 2FA off. Where this guide says "the help doesn't say," that's why.

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

Nozbe's help describes these steps (Nozbe):

  1. Open Nozbe and click the gear icon at the top of the left-hand panel to open your settings.
  2. Choose Two-Factor Authentication. The help page writes it both as "Two-Factor" and "Two-factor", so the capital letters on your screen may differ.
  3. Read the on-screen explanation of how 2FA works and continue.
  4. Pick Authentication app as your method.
  5. Add Nozbe to Novaz. If Nozbe shows a QR code, tap + in Novaz, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  6. If Nozbe shows a text key instead, tap +, then Enter key manually, and type it as the Setup key. Nozbe's help doesn't say whether it offers a key or what it calls one. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  7. Type the code from Novaz into Nozbe to finish. Nozbe's release notes from February 2023 say the form confirms a correct code on its own, so you may not need to press a button (Nozbe).

From then on, signing in takes your password plus a code from the app.

You'll also need a code when you connect Nozbe to another app with your Nozbe sign-in. Nozbe's Microsoft Teams help, for example, says to enter your one-time password while linking the accounts if 2FA is on (Nozbe).

Nozbe also lets you sign in with Apple or Google. Its help describes 2FA as a step after your password and doesn't say how it applies to Apple or Google sign-in.

Recovery codes

The Settings help page doesn't mention backup or recovery codes. A November 2020 release note, though, mentions a fix for typing recovery codes into the 2FA form (Nozbe). So if Nozbe gives you recovery codes during setup, save them somewhere other than your phone, such as a password manager or a sheet of paper.

Keep them even if you back up Novaz with iCloud backup or a backup file; they're your way in if the phone is gone and there's no up-to-date Novaz backup. More in 2FA backup codes.

If Nozbe rejects your code

Nozbe's help doesn't give advice for rejected codes. Its release notes do list several fixes to the 2FA screens, most recently in April 2026, so make sure your Nozbe app is up to date (Nozbe).

Then check your iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

If you lose your authenticator

Try a recovery code first, if Nozbe gave you any. Nozbe's help doesn't describe a reset for 2FA, so the next step is Nozbe support. Email support@nozbe.com, ideally from the address on your Nozbe account so support can match it. Nozbe says it guarantees a reply by the next day, and often answers within minutes (Nozbe). The in-app contact form, under the lifebuoy icon, needs you to be signed in, so email is the route when you're locked out.

Nozbe doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long a reset takes. See also Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

Changing phones

Nozbe doesn't document moving 2FA to a new phone, or turning 2FA off. If your settings let you turn it off, the safest order is: on the old phone, sign in, turn 2FA off, then set it up again with the new phone. In Novaz, an iCloud backup or backup file lets you restore Nozbe on the new iPhone instead; without one, the new phone needs Nozbe added again. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
