SubscribeStar 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5

SubscribeStar is the membership platform where creators (it calls them Stars) sell subscription tiers and subscribers pay to see their posts. The same account holds your payment methods and, for creators, your payouts. SubscribeStar already had two-factor authentication (2FA) by email. In September 2024 it added a second option: codes from an authenticator app, which it calls OTP 2FA, and it now recommends that over email codes (SubscribeStar). Its pages don't say that 2FA is required for anyone.
This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the SubscribeStar steps come from SubscribeStar's own announcement post, help center and contact page, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. SubscribeStar's documentation of this feature is one short post, so we say where it stops. We haven't tested the steps on a SubscribeStar account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
SubscribeStar's post describes the start of the setup (SubscribeStar):
- Sign in to SubscribeStar and open Menu > Account Settings. You can also go straight to the settings page, which the help center gives as subscribestar.com/account/settings (SubscribeStar).
- Scroll down to the section Authenticator Apps (OTP 2FA).
- Click Set up OTP and follow the instructions on screen.
From there the post doesn't describe the screens, so it doesn't say whether you'll see a QR code, a text key or both. The usual flow, and what to do in Novaz:
- If SubscribeStar shows a QR code, open Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. On the same iPhone, take a screenshot and tap +, then Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If it gives you a key to type, tap +, then Enter key manually. Put SubscribeStar in Service, your email address in Account if you like, and the key in Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Type the 6-digit code Novaz shows into SubscribeStar to finish, if it asks for one.
SubscribeStar doesn't publish its code settings. If you can choose, scan the QR code: it carries those settings to Novaz, while a typed key always gets 6 digits every 30 seconds.
Email codes after you add the app
Setting up the app doesn't remove email 2FA on its own. SubscribeStar says you can opt out of email 2FA once OTP is set up (SubscribeStar). It argues the app is safer because codes are made on your phone, so someone who gets into your email can't read them, and because they don't need a connection or a wait for a message.
What the post doesn't say is how the two work together: whether you're asked for both codes, or whether keeping email 2FA on gives you a way in if you lose the app. Check the screens in Account Settings before you turn email codes off.
SubscribeStar's sign-in page also offers Log in with Facebook next to email sign-in (SubscribeStar). The 2FA post doesn't say whether the app code is asked for when you sign in that way.
Backup codes
SubscribeStar's post and help center don't mention backup or recovery codes. If the setup screens offer some, save them away from your phone, in a password manager or on paper. They'd still matter with a Novaz backup: if the phone is gone and you have no iCloud backup or backup file, or it's older than your SubscribeStar entry, those codes would be your way back in. More in 2FA backup codes.
If SubscribeStar rejects your code
SubscribeStar doesn't give advice for rejected codes. Start with the iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Its help center does warn that ad blockers and other browser extensions can break sign-in, and suggests pausing them if logging in fails (SubscribeStar). More causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
SubscribeStar doesn't describe moving the app to a new phone. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, restore your accounts on the new iPhone and the SubscribeStar codes keep working. Without one, you'll need to set SubscribeStar up again on the new phone. Do it while the old phone still works and you can still sign in, from the same Authenticator Apps (OTP 2FA) section. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
SubscribeStar documents no recovery process for a lost authenticator app. Its contact page lists support@subscribestar.com for technical support questions (SubscribeStar). For a different sign-in problem, the help center asks you to write from the email address you want on the account and describe what happened (SubscribeStar). Writing from the address on your account is a sensible start here too. SubscribeStar doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long it takes.
