Abode 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
Your Abode account is the login for the Abode app, where you arm and disarm your home security system, check sensors and view cameras. That makes it worth a second sign-in step. Abode's two-factor authentication (2FA) uses an authenticator app; its help page doesn't mention text-message or email codes. It's optional, and it's set per user: turning it on protects your own login, not the logins of other people on the same system. Abode suggests every user with access to the system turns it on (Abode).
This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Abode's page names Google Authenticator and Authy as examples, but any authenticator app that makes time-based codes works the same way, Novaz included.
How we checked this guide: the Abode steps come from Abode's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on an Abode account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
Abode documents the setup in the mobile app only. Its help page doesn't describe a 2FA setting in the web app (Abode).
- In the Abode app, tap the Menu icon.
- Tap your name to open your profile settings.
- Tap Two-Factor Authentication.
- Enter your Abode account password.
- Abode shows a barcode to scan and a code you can copy. If the Abode app is on a different device, open Novaz on your iPhone, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the barcode. If the Abode app is on the same iPhone as Novaz, copy the code instead. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, type Abode as the Service, and paste the code into Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key? A screenshot of the barcode with Choose a photo also works (guide).
- Novaz now shows a 6-digit code for Abode. Copy it and paste it into the Authentication Key field in the Abode app, then tap Next.
- Abode shows a backup code. Save it somewhere safe that isn't your phone (more on this below).
- Tap Done.
- Sign out of the Abode app and sign back in. After your password, Abode now asks for an Authenticator Passcode. Type the current code from Novaz.
Abode doesn't say how often its codes change or how long the copied key is. If Novaz rejects the key you pasted, go back and scan the barcode instead.
Your backup code
Abode gives you one backup code, not a list. It's what you'll need if you can't open your authenticator app (Abode). If that phone is lost or broken and you have no Novaz backup (iCloud backup or a backup file), this code is your only way back in on your own. Write it down or store it in a password manager. The page doesn't say whether the code works more than once or how to get a new one, so plan as if it's single-use. See 2FA backup codes.
When Abode asks for a code
Abode's page gives two slightly different answers. Its opening says the code is asked for when you sign in from a new device. Its last setup step says you'll be asked for the passcode after your password when you sign back in (Abode). Either way, expect a code whenever you sign in to the Abode app fresh, and keep Novaz handy when you set up a new phone or tablet.
If Abode rejects your code
Abode's help doesn't cover wrong codes. The most common cause is the iPhone's clock. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz shows a warning if your clock is 15 seconds or more off. Also check that you're typing the newest code and not one that just expired. More in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
Abode doesn't describe a way to move 2FA to a new phone. With a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone and the Abode codes keep working. Without one, while you can still sign in, the simplest route is to turn 2FA off in the Abode app and set it up again with Novaz on the new iPhone. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
Sign in with your backup code. If you've lost the backup code too, Abode's page says to email support@goabode.com to have your 2FA settings reset (Abode). Abode doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long a reset takes. Its general support page says email works best for detailed problems, lists phone and chat options, and gives support hours of 6 am to 8 pm US Pacific Time, every day (Abode). Write from the email address on your Abode account. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Turning 2FA off
In the Abode app, tap the Menu icon, tap your profile, tap Two-Factor Authentication, then Disable and Done. This turns it off for your own login only. Other users on the same hub keep their 2FA (Abode). Then open Abode in Novaz and tap Remove account.
