Rebrandly is the platform people use for branded short links and QR codes on their own domains. Its two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional and has exactly two ways past the second step: a code from an authenticator app, or a backup code from setup (Rebrandly). There's no text message option, and Rebrandly's help describes no support route if you lose both, so decide where the backup codes will live before you start.

This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Rebrandly steps come from Rebrandly's own help center, including the screenshots in its 2FA article, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Rebrandly account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

Rebrandly's 2FA article, updated June 3, 2026, describes these steps; some labels come from its screenshots (Rebrandly):

  1. Sign in at app.rebrandly.com and open your account settings. Find the Two-factor auth. (2FA) row and click Configure 2FA.
  2. Rebrandly asks you to log in again, to confirm it's you. It then opens a Two-factor authentication page showing 2FA is currently disabled.
  3. Click Enable 2FA. A screen called Authenticator app configuration (step 1 of 2) shows a QR code.
  4. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the code. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  5. If you can't scan it, use the text key shown under Or enter this key. In the screenshot it's 32 characters in groups of four. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, and type it as the Setup key. Spaces don't matter. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  6. Type the 6-digit code from Novaz into Verification code and click Verify and continue.
  7. Step 2 of 2, Recovery codes, shows your backup codes, with a Print codes link. Save them (see below).
  8. Tick the box that says you understand you'll lose access to the account without the app or the codes, then click Enable 2FA.

Rebrandly's help doesn't say how often its codes change. Scanning the QR code is the safer choice, because it passes the code settings to your app.

Can't find the setting?

The 2FA article's screenshots show an older layout. A newer Rebrandly article, about single sign-on, puts sign-in options under profile icon > Settings > Authentication (Rebrandly). It doesn't mention 2FA, but if Configure 2FA isn't where you expect, look there.

Rebrandly's help doesn't say how 2FA works if you sign in with Google, Twitter or Facebook.

Save the backup codes before you finish

Setup won't finish until you confirm the codes are saved. The screenshot shows ten; Rebrandly suggests printing them, and each works once.

If that iPhone is lost and you have no Novaz backup (iCloud backup or a backup file), these codes are your way back in. Keep them on paper or in a password manager. See 2FA backup codes.

Once 2FA is on, the Two-factor authentication page shows 2FA is currently enabled and a Generate new backup codes button. The article doesn't say whether new codes cancel the old ones, so keep the newest set.

Signing in with 2FA

After your email and password at app.rebrandly.com/login, a Two factor authentication screen asks for the 2FA code. A Don't ask for codes again when I log in from this device box is there too; tick it only on a computer you trust. Rebrandly doesn't say how long it lasts.

Without your phone, use the link under the code box to enter a backup code. The article's text calls it use one of my backup codes, while the screenshot shows Log in with a recovery code, so the label may differ.

If Rebrandly rejects your code

Rebrandly's sign-in help just says to check that you're entering the right code from your authenticator app (Rebrandly).

If codes still fail, check the iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones

Rebrandly doesn't document moving 2FA to a new phone. If you keep a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, restore it on the new iPhone and your Rebrandly codes carry on. Otherwise, while the old phone still works, turn 2FA off and set it up again with the new one, which also gives you new backup codes. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

Sign in with one of your backup codes, then turn 2FA off and set it up again on your new phone. Rebrandly's own words are blunt: losing the app or the codes can mean "permanently losing access" to your account (Rebrandly). Its help center describes no identity check or support reset for 2FA. You can try the chat bubble on the site, which its sign-in help offers for other problems (Rebrandly), but nothing there promises a reset.

Turning 2FA off

Go back to Configure 2FA in your account settings. On the Two-factor authentication page, click Disable 2FA (Rebrandly). Then remove the Rebrandly entry from Novaz: open it and tap Remove account.
