Blacknight has two control panels, and each has its own two-step verification (2FA) setting, so first work out which one you use. Accounts opened since June 2022 are on the newer panel at cp.blacknighthosting.com, where you sign in with your email address. Older accounts may still be on cp.blacknight.com, which uses a username instead, while Blacknight moves customers across (Blacknight, Blacknight).

Both panels work with an authenticator app, and the new one can email you codes instead (Blacknight). Blacknight's help doesn't say 2FA is required. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Blacknight steps come from Blacknight's own help center and support page, linked below, which we read on October 20, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Blacknight account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Turn on 2FA in the new panel

For cp.blacknighthosting.com, Blacknight describes these steps (Blacknight):

  1. Sign in, click My Account at the top right, then Security Settings near the bottom of the list.
  2. The page reads Two-factor authentication is currently disabled. Click Click here to Enable, then Get Started.
  3. Choose Time Based Tokens. The other option, Email Two-Factor Authentication, sends codes to your sign-in email.
  4. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the QR code. On the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead (how).
  5. If you can't scan, Blacknight shows a code on screen to type in. Its help gives this key no name. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, and enter it as the Setup key (what's a setup key?).
  6. Type the 6-digit code from Novaz and click Submit.
  7. Save the backup code Blacknight shows you, then click Close.

The page should now read Two-factor authentication is currently enabled.

Blacknight's help mentions six digits but not how often codes change, so scan the QR code if you can: it passes the exact settings to Novaz, while a typed key always gets 30 seconds.

The menu name may differ. The article's own FAQ says to click your name at the top right, and another Blacknight article mentions the arrow beside your account name (Blacknight). Look for Security Settings in that menu.

Turn on 2FA in the old panel

On cp.blacknight.com, the panel brings it up for you (Blacknight):

  1. Sign in with your username. If two-step verification is off, you're prompted to enable it. Set the option to on and click continue.
  2. Scan the QR code with Novaz, or type the text key, which Blacknight calls the pretty key, using Enter key manually.
  3. Enter the 6-digit code from Novaz and click Verify.

These steps don't mention a backup code.

The two panels have separate logins, so each needs its own setup and its own Novaz entry. If you use both, give them clear names in the Service field.

Keep the backup code

The new panel gives you one backup code for when you can't get in. Blacknight doesn't say whether it works only once or how to get a new one. If that phone is gone and you have no Novaz backup, this code is your way back. Store it away from the phone. More in 2FA backup codes.

When Blacknight asks for a code

Both panels ask for a fresh 6-digit code every time you sign in (Blacknight). The help mentions no option to remember a trusted computer.

If Blacknight rejects your code

Blacknight's 2FA article has no advice here beyond contacting support. Check that you're reading the Novaz entry for the right panel. Then check the iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when it's 15 seconds or more off. More in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones or switching to email codes

Blacknight doesn't describe moving 2FA to a new phone. It does describe changing method in the new panel: open Security Settings, disable two-step verification, and Blacknight asks you to set it up again, this time with Time Based Tokens or Email Two-Factor Authentication (Blacknight). Do this with the new phone at hand and you get a fresh QR code to scan. You need a code to sign in first, so keep the old phone until you're done. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead: see How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

Email codes come from billing@blacknight.com and expire after 15 minutes.

If you lose your authenticator

Use your backup code. Without it, Blacknight's answer is to contact its support team, who can help you regain access (Blacknight): phone +353 (0)59 9183072, live chat, or help@blacknight.com (Blacknight). Blacknight doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long recovery takes. Its support page says it generally replies within one working day. See also Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

Turning 2FA off

In the new panel, disable it under Security Settings. Blacknight's help doesn't cover turning it off in the old panel.

Titan mailboxes are separate

A Titan mailbox from Blacknight has its own 2FA, set in Titan Webmail rather than the control panel. With it on, apps such as Outlook can't connect to that mailbox (Blacknight).
